// rethinking berlin: kleingarten
The line of the Berlin S-Bahn is taken and serves as point of view to the spectator, visitor and architect. Upon this travelling viewing-platform observation becomes filmic- slow and contemplative, floating over the city (film reference Wim Wenders’ ‘Wings of Desire’). An understanding of the characteristics, particularities and charm of the city is facilitated.
From the window of the S-Bahn was conceived a research project inspired by the ‘Kleingärten’ (allotment gardens) which surround the city.
The result: a succession of images showing the passage– from discovery of the existing spatial and living situation– to curiosity, understanding, and the posing of a question– and finally transformation, from the banal and problematic of the existing, to the poetry of the extraordinary– the rethinking of Berlin.
